A warrant has been issued in Beckham County District Court for the arrest of a registered sex offender from Wellington, Texas after receiving one felony charge of lewd or incident acts to a child under the age of 16.

According to the probable cause affidavit, 46-year-old Samuel Lee Shaffer is wanted after an investigation that began in September 2021 led to the recorded confession from the defendant.

The lengthy investigation involved detectives from the Sayre Police Department after authorities were made aware of the incident by family members.

The Texas Department of Safety also assisted in the case.

The affidavit stated that Shaffer allegedly inappropriately touched his then 11-year-old cousin while both were staying the night at a family member’s home in Sayre, on the night of July 4, 2020. During an interview with Texas DPS officials, Shaffer would confess to the wrongdoing.

Once arrested, bond for Shaffer was set at $100,000.
