Authorities are still investigating the fatal officer involved shooting that took place Friday evening on the east side of Elk City.

In a press release provided by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, the incident took place just after 7:00 p.m. that evening, when officers responded to a disturbance call near East Highway 66 and North County Road 2025. When officers arrived on scene, they made contact with 29-year-old Jerry Garcia, who brandished a knife. After officers commanded Garcia to drop his weapon, he ignored their commands and moved toward the officers, resulting in the officer-involved shooting.

OSBI said medical personnel provided life-saving measures, but Garcia was pronounced deceased at the scene. The officers were not injured.

Authorities said this is still an ongoing investigation.
