Custer County, OK – A North Carolina woman is facing felony and misdemeanor drug charges following a traffic stop on Interstate 40 in Custer County.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Custer County District Court, Nizhaiya Moneque Turner, 28, of Havelock, North Carolina, was arrested December 21, 2025, after being stopped by the Clinton Police Department near the 65 mile marker eastbound on I-40.
An officer reported observing a gray 2023 Jeep Compass traveling 77 miles per hour in a 70 mile per hour zone. After initiating the traffic stop, the officer said he smelled the odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
During contact with Turner, the officer observed packaging commonly used for marijuana in the vehicle’s center console, according to the affidavit. Turner later admitted to having marijuana in the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle reportedly led to the discovery of three ziplock bags of marijuana hidden beneath the spare tire in the trunk. The total weight was listed as approximately 11.7 ounces. Officers also reported finding 8.3 grams of mushrooms labeled “Albino Yeti” inside a cloth bag near the driver’s seat. Field testing indicated the substances were marijuana and psilocybin, the affidavit states.
Turner was taken into custody and transported to the Clinton City Jail. The vehicle was inventoried and released to a wrecker service.
Court records show Turner is charged with one felony count of unlawful possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and one misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled dangerous substance. The felony charge carries a possible penalty of up to five years in prison and a $20,000 fine, while the misdemeanor charge carries a possible penalty of up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and Turner is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
