The jury trial for a man accused of killing his mother in Custer County in the summer of 2020 began this week.

38-year-old Dennis Ray Rigsby Junior was charged in June 2020 with one felony count of murder in the 1st degree – deliberate intent after he allegedly killed his mother in a camper at the Love’s Travel Stop between Clinton and Weatherford on June 6, 2020.

According to court records, Rigsby allegedly attacked and killed Judy Mullin while traveling from Oklahoma City to California after she had picked him up after his release from jail.

Rigsby’s defense attorney’s would tell the jury that they intend to establish that their client was not in a normal state of mind on the day of the murder, calling on various witnesses supporting this defense including an EMS medical aid that rendered aid to Rigsby. The witness would say that Rigsby appeared to be “spaced out” as he attempted to ask him questions.

Video evidence was shown to the jury that would show Rigsby on police body camera footage say that someone needed help in the camper. Authorities would later find Mullin’s body in the camper.

While attempting to question Rigsby on the scene, a Clinton Patrolman would say that Rigsby would plead the fifth amendment, and refused to answer questions.

The ongoing trial is expected to last through the end of the week.
