Weatherford, OK – The family of the late Dr. Sara Nell (Bergstrom) Marquis, ’76 & ’03, has made a major charitable gift to the Bulldog Angels Fund at Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU). The contribution was made in honor and memory of Dr. Marquis.

The Bulldog Angels Fund was established by 2014 SWOSU Distinguished Alumnus and Carnegie native Bill Howell, ’75, to benefit SWOSU students in times of crisis. The fund is a vital resource to SWOSU students when all other options for assistance are exhausted or unavailable. Since its inception, the Bulldog Angels Fund has helped hundreds of SWOSU students who are facing extreme financial pressures to stay enrolled and on track.

Dr. Marquis was on the faculty of the SWOSU College of Pharmacy from 1987 until her death in 2008. She was a native of the Portales and Clovis areas in New Mexico. She held undergraduate degrees from Wayland Baptist University and SWOSU and earned her Doctor of Pharmacy from SWOSU in 2003.

Dr. Marquis and her husband, Charles “Chuck” Marquis, ’72, of Weatherford, raised two daughters: Carissa (Marquis) King, ’08, also of Weatherford, and Alicia Marquis, ’14, of Fort Collins, Colorado.

The Bulldog Angels Fund is stewarded by the SWOSU Foundation, Inc., which was established in 1977 to promote philanthropy, award scholarships, and distribute funds to support the activities and programs of SWOSU.
