Beckham County, OK – An Elk City man is facing felony charges following an alleged pursuit and arrest near Sayre on Sunday, Jan. 4.

According to court records, Kevin Lanell Scott, 36, was arrested after authorities attempted to stop a red Ford SUV reported as driving recklessly on Interstate 40 eastbound as it approached Beckham County from Texas.

The affidavit states the vehicle was first reported near the 173 mile marker in Texas and later passed the Oklahoma Texas state line. Officers attempted a traffic stop near mile marker 14, but the driver allegedly failed to pull over despite emergency lights and sirens being activated.

During the pursuit, the driver allegedly gestured for officers to pass and activated hazard lights but continued driving. Speeds were reported at approximately 60 miles per hour. The vehicle exited I-40 at Exit 20 near Highway 283 south of Sayre, where it stopped before completing a turn.

Authorities say the driver refused repeated verbal commands and would not exit the vehicle. Traffic on Highway 283 was stopped as a precaution while officers attempted to take the driver into custody. The affidavit alleges the driver continued to resist before being removed from the vehicle and taken to the ground, where he was arrested.

Scott was identified as the sole occupant of the vehicle. The SUV displayed a Virginia license plate that was registered to a different vehicle, according to the affidavit.

Scott was booked on complaints of eluding a police officer in a manner that endangered others and resisting an executive officer by force or violence. Bond was set at $20,000.
