Latest Sales Tax Revenue for Local Cities Shows Mixed Results

Sales tax revenue figures for September 2024 reveal varied results across Western Oklahoma cities compared to the same month last year. Elk City led the gains with a 4% increase, amounting to $1,324,434.66, up from $1,272,828.26 in September 2023.

Clinton also posted a slight increase of 1.9%, totaling $554,062.47, while Altus saw a minor dip of 0.7% to $1,159,382.98. Woodward experienced a more significant decline, dropping by 5.2% to $1,082,055.82. Sayre and Mangum faced the steepest drops, with Sayre down 15% to $136,044.95 and Mangum plunging 26% to $51,789.39.

Weatherford, usually a strong performer, saw a notable 9.9% decrease, recording $1,066,761.28 in September 2024, compared to $1,185,061.68 the previous year. Cordell’s intake remained almost flat, seeing a slight 0.25% decrease.

On a broader scale, the State of Oklahoma’s total sales tax revenue for September 2024 was $238,460,919.30, a 1.7% decrease from $242,708,616.13 in September 2023. These numbers reflect broader economic trends and varying local factors impacting consumer spending in each community.

While some cities saw growth, others faced declines, highlighting an uneven economic landscape as local governments assess their revenue projections for the upcoming fiscal year.
