Beckham County authorities assisted the Wheeler Texas Sheriff’s Department late last week in locating and arresting a man who allegedly took a 3-year-old child from a Wheeler, Texas daycare.

29-year-old Davian Blair, the non-custodial parent of the child, was charged in Beckham County with, (among other things) kidnapping of a child and child neglect after being arrested near Sayre on Friday.

Beckham County Sheriff Derek Manning says his office was contacted by the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office after the mother of the child told them that the suspect had picked the child up from the daycare earlier in the day without permission. He said after an investigation, it was determined that Blair may have crossed the state line and was in Beckham County. Manning said deputies were able to narrow down his possible location near Sayre by pinging his cell phone.

Manning said the child was reunited with the mother unharmed.

Along with the charges in Beckham County, Blair is also facing charges in Wheeler County. Manning stated that because the man drove across the state line while committing the crimes – he could also face federal charges.

Blair’s next court date in Beckham County is scheduled for October 16.
