Great Plains Regional Medical Center Victim of Ransomware Attack

Sept. 12, 2024

It has been reported that Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Elk City is the victim of a ransomware attack, which has locked the hospital’s computer system and is demanding payment for its release.
Ransomware is a type of malicious software (malware) that encrypts a victim’s data or locks them out of their system, making the data inaccessible. The attacker then demands a ransom to restore access to the files or system. Victims are often pressured with time-sensitive threats, such as increased ransom amounts or the permanent deletion of data if the ransom isn’t paid.
Reports state that the hospital has not yet fully assessed the extent of compromised patient information, but the attack has severely impacted operations.
Paragon Communications has reached out to hospital officials but has not yet received an official statement regarding the issue.
