Elk City, OK – A GoFundMe has been launched to support the family of 17-year-old Chaston Adams, the Elk City High School student who lost his life in a car crash northwest of Elk City on Saturday.
The fundraiser was organized to help cover funeral expenses. The fundraiser is encouraging community members to donate if they are able. As of press time, the campaign had raised over $5,000 toward its $7,500 goal.
Adams died in a one-vehicle crash reported around 12:45 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of County Roads 1100 and 1940 in Beckham County. According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the westbound vehicle failed to stop, went airborne more than 100 feet, traveled nearly 300 feet more, then left the road and rolled five times. Both Adams and his passenger were ejected.
Adams was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, also a juvenile, was seriously injured. Troopers said neither teen was wearing a seatbelt.
The Beckham County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene, though the Highway Patrol is leading the investigation. Sheriff Derek Manning noted the tragedy’s impact on Elk City students and staff just as the school year begins.
Funeral service details for Adams will be announced once arrangements are finalized.
