Multiple fire departments responded to a grass fire late Monday afternoon that originated 2 miles east of the Town of Carter in Beckham County.

Elk City Fire Chief Kyle Chervenka said the cause of the blaze remains under investigation but appears to be accidental in nature and had started somewhere near OK-55. He said crews from the Carter Fire Department were first on scene and detected multiple fires.

Chervenka said crews were on scene throughout the night and into the next day extinguishing hot spots. He said no homes were involved.

Along with Carter and Elk City, other crews that responded to the fire included Delhi, Sayre, Canute, Mangum, Willow, Granite and the Custer and Roger Mills County Task Forces.
