A tragic single-vehicle crash claimed the life of 76-year-old Willie Curry of Oklahoma City on Friday afternoon. The crash occurred at approximately 3:41 p.m. on State Spur 556/Business I-40, roughly 1.6 miles west of Shamrock, Texas.

According to Texas Highway Patrol troopers, Curry was driving a 2003 GMC Yukon westbound when he approached a curve and stop sign at an unsafe speed for the road conditions. Despite clear weather and dry roads, Curry was unable to negotiate the curve, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The Yukon slid sideways before rolling over multiple times.

Authorities confirmed that Curry was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. He was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by the Wheeler County Justice of the Peace.

The Texas Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. No other vehicles were involved, and there were no additional injuries reported.
