Elk City emergency personal were dispatched to a house fire in the 900 block of West 1st Street Wednesday afternoon, however despite heroic efforts made by Elk City Police, the lone occupant of the home did not survive.

Elk City Fire Chief Kyle Chervenka says crews were dispatched to the home just before 3p.m. and found the building fully involved with smoke.

Unfortunately Chervenka said the elderly male victim succumbed to his injuries at an Oklahoma City area hospital Thursday morning.

No name was released.

Chervenka says the State Fire Marshal is still determining a cause of the fire, however he suspects it may have been started by a space heater.

According to the Elk City Police Department’s Facebook page, Sgt. Colt Lowry was credited for entering the burning home and pulling the man out.
