Beckham County, OK – A single-vehicle crash in rural Beckham County early Tuesday morning claimed the life of a Lawton man.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at approximately 3:01 a.m. on March 18 along State Highway 6 near East/West County Road 1250, about 17.5 miles north of Granite.
Troopers report that a 60-year-old driver, identified as Terry K. Bell of Lawton, was traveling northbound when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle left the roadway. Investigators say the driver overcorrected, briefly returning to the roadway before overcorrecting again and leaving the road a second time.
The vehicle then struck a ditch and overturned approximately one and a quarter times, coming to rest on its driver’s side. Bell was ejected from the vehicle and was found approximately 73 feet north of where the vehicle came to rest.
Bell was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to the report.
No other vehicles or passengers were involved. Bell’s next of kin has been notified.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
