Roger Mills County, OK – A 19-year-old Georgia man was killed early Sunday morning in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 283, just north of State Highway 33, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash happened around 4:03 a.m. when a northbound vehicle driven by 20-year-old Jessie J. Cunningham of Cheyenne swerved to avoid a deer. The vehicle left the roadway to the right and traveled nearly 500 feet through a ditch before striking a tree on the passenger side.
At some point during the crash, back seat passenger Raneil Joran Reid, 19, of Duluth, Georgia, was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cunningham was not injured, but one passenger was reported hurt. Five people were inside the vehicle at the time, and troopers said not all were wearing seatbelts.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol confirmed next of kin has been notified.
The crash remains under investigation.
