Voters decided local school board races in western Oklahoma on Valentine’s Day and one school district’s voters loved the idea of providing students with new school buses.

After getting 66% of the yes vote, the transportation bond put before voters in the Elk City School District passed with ease.

Superintendent Mike Sparks said now that the $1.5 million issue will move forward, the process of purchasing two activity buses, five route buses, and two passenger vans will almost immediately begin with the hope the new buses will hit routes as soon as the start of the 2023 – 2024 school year.

Sparks said that the district will attempt to trade in or sell the old buses during the process.

Other elections in the area saw Aubrey Christian win a seat on the Hammon School Board by winning the three candidate race by obtaining 42% of the vote and Brad Honke also winning a three man race for a seat on the Canute School Board by obtaining 53% approval.
