A late Friday night single vehicle accident has left two Elk City teenagers in critical condition.

According to the collision report provided by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred on county road E 1100, 1 mile east of Elk City when the 2012 Buick Lacrosse driven by 18-year-old Amelia J. Shawn departed the road to the right striking a barbed wire fence and a utility pole. Troopers said the vehicle then traveled off an embankment and rolled end over end coming to rest on its top in a dry creek bottom.

As a result, Shawn was flown to OU Trauma in Oklahoma City where she was admitted in critical condition with trunk internal injuries.

A passenger in the car, 19-year-old Rachel K. Putman was also flown to OU Trauma and admitted in critical condition with trunk internal and leg injuries.

Troopers said both occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

OHP also said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
