Elk City, OK – The Elk City Police Department is opening its doors to community members who want to explore a career in law enforcement through a new Police Ride-Along Program. The initiative gives participants a firsthand look at the day-to-day duties of Elk City officers.
The program allows approved participants to join officers during their shifts, with ride-along times available during the day, evening, and weekends. Each session lasts between two and four hours, depending on shift length and availability.
To qualify, applicants must be at least 21 years old, have no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history, and meet state and federal requirements to hold the position of police officer. Participants must also complete a liability waiver and pass a background check before being approved.
Assistant Chief John Cook said the program is designed to give people considering law enforcement a realistic view of the profession with a chance individuals to experience the job up close and see if it’s the right fit for their future.
