An Elk City man was arrested and charged recently with one count of child abuse after allegedly striking his girlfriend’s child in the face.

According to court records 31-year-old James Morris was charged July 22 for the crime and arrested the next day.

A probable cause affidavit showed that the Elk City Police were notified of the suspected abuse by the child’s father on July 18. During the investigation into the alleged abuse, the affidavit said that bruising and swelling were discovered on the child’s face.

Speaking with authorities, the defendant admitted to spanking the two children that reside in the home but denied striking the child on the face.

Authorities would also speak with the two children where they were told that Morris had allegedly struck the child in the face.

Morris’ bond was set at $10,000.
