Elk City Man Caught Attempting to Steal Copper – Charged

An Elk City man was arrested recently after allegedly attempting to steal copper.

According to court records, 37-year-old Daniel Patrick Rafferty was arrested on the evening of April 21 after Elk City Police were dispatched to a vacant motel in the 1100 block of OK-34 that had been condemned by the City.

When police arrived they would see the defendant near a green, opened transformer box where he was allegedly attempting to pull large copper wire out from the box.

After being arrested without incident, he would tell police that another man, later identified as being 47-year-old Jose Angel Rodriguez of Sayre, was inside the building. After being located, he too was arrested without incident. He would tell police that he was attempting to take mattresses from the property.

Rafferty received one felony count of entering with intent to steal copper.

Rodriguez was charged with one count of breaking and entering with unlawful intent – a misdemeanor.
