Crews with the Elk City Fire Department responded to two different structure fires Tuesday night.

Authorities said at approximately 9:30pm Tuesday fire crews were called to the 200 block of N. Eastern Avenue for a residential fire. Despite the cold temperatures crews were able to bring the fire under control in a matter of minutes and damage was contained to the room where the fire started. Chief Kyle Chervenka said the cause of this fire was due to a heating unit attempting to thaw frozen pipes.

The second fire was dispatched at approximately 11:40pm to the Northeast side of town for a large shop fire. Crews were able to bring that fire under control in approximately 30 minutes. The cause of that fire was secondary to sparks from a grinding wheel.

No injuries occurred during either of the fires.
