The Elk City Commission met in regular session for the final time this calendar year Wednesday afternoon and after much discussion approved an interlocal agreement between the City and the Clinton Solid Waste Authority for disposal of Clinton’s municipal solid waste.

City Manager Tom Ivester says the approved agreement is for one year, however Clinton city leaders will need to approve the deal on their end before trash can be hauled over to the Elk City Landfill.

Ivester said if Clinton chooses to bring their waste to the landfill, it will indeed decrease the overall life of the landfill, but added that with the extra revenue gained from the deal – those funds would be used to expand the landfill if needed.

The approved agreement will see the City of Clinton pay Elk City $36.38 per ton of waste.

The City of Clinton now has to approve the agreement on their end.

No word one when the Clinton City Council will consider the item.
