Two architects presented concepts for possible police department and fire station upgrades at the recent Elk City Commission meeting.

During a regular meeting last month, the Commission approved an April municipal vote that will call for repurposing the existing half-cent sales tax adopted by voters for the new elementary school. That revenue would fund badly-needed fire and police department upgrades.

According to City Manager Tom Ivester, both architects gave great presentations at the meeting, and the Commission would likely have been comfortable with either one.

Ivester said the Commission chose REES Architects to go forward with concept planning if the sales tax continuation is approved.

Both architects who presented at the meeting were based in Oklahoma City.

If approved by Elk City voters in April, the repurposed sales tax would allow for needed public safety improvements without raising taxes.
