Voters hit up their local polling places yesterday to decide one local bond issue and runoff elections.

Locally, the transportation bond presented to voters living in the Elk City School District failed to garner the 60% yes vote it needed to replace route and activity buses.

The measure received 54% of the yes vote.

Despite the measure failing, it is still possible for the district to be awarded a federal grant that would go to the purchase of up to 6 electric buses and charging stations.

Elsewhere, major races throughout the state saw State Representative Todd Russ of Cordell take down Clark Jolley in the Republican runoff for state treasure.

Russ will now face Democrat Charles De Coune and Libertarian Gregory Sadler in November.

For State Senate, Republican incumbent Darcy Jech will remains the senator representing district 26 after defeating challenger Brady Butler.

In the race to replace retiring U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe, Congressman Markwayne Mullin defeated T.W. Shannon for the Republican nod. He’ll now face former Democratic Congresswoman Kendra Horn, Libertarian candidate Robert Murphy and Independent candidate Ray Woods in the November general election.

In the Democratic runoff for U.S. Senate, Madison Horn of Stillwell defeated Merritt High School alum Jason Bollinger for the nomination.

She’ll face longtime incumbent James Lankford in November.

Finally, State Secretary of Education Ryan Walters defeated Shawnee Public Schools Superintendent April Grace in the Republican runoff for State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Walters will now square off against Democrat Jena Nelson in November for the position.
