Elk City, OK — Elk City Police served a search warrant Tuesday at a home on West 2nd Street as part of a child sexual abuse material investigation that began with a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the department said.

Detectives said the tip led them to evidence suggesting the presence of child sexual abuse material and obscene material at the residence. The warrant was executed to secure evidence and advance the case.

One arrest has been made. Steven Wayne Sparkman, 72, was booked into the Beckham County Jail on complaints of computer violations, possession of child sexual abuse material, and possession of obscene material. The case remains under investigation. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

Police said the investigation is being handled through the department’s Internet Crimes Against Children efforts, which focus on identifying and arresting people who exploit children online. Elk City Police noted assistance from the Clinton Police Department during the warrant service.

Anyone with information related to this case or similar activity is urged to contact Capt. Sammy Weygand with the Criminal Investigations Division at 580-225-1212 or weygand@elkcity.com
