A fire broke out early Wednesday morning at a motorsports business in Elk City, located in the 700 block of South Main. The blaze started just after 6 a.m. and is believed to have been caused by a possible failure of one of the UTVs in the shop area, says Major Derrick Ellis with the Elk City Fire Department.

“Heavy fire and smoke were showing from the rear of the structure. Crews went in and quickly knocked down the fire, but there was extensive damage to the business. The fire is believed to be unintentional. It’s still under investigation, and no injuries were reported.”

Fortunately, no one was injured, as the business was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Elk City firefighters worked to contain the flames, but the building was ultimately determined to be a total loss.

Investigators are looking into the cause, but early indications point to equipment failure as the likely source.
