Custer County Still Assessing Damage – No Declaration Yet

Custer County is still recovering from Wednesday morning’s severe weather that tore through the area.

The storm brought straight line winds that damaged buildings, trees, and power lines, hail, and a massive amount of rain.

Custer County Emergency Management Director Mike Galloway told Paragon Communications that it is still to early to have a declaration of emergency issued, but says it’s still possible – which would mean the county would receive state and possible federal dollars to aid with repairs.

Galloway added that Gov. Kevin Stitt has the power to make a declaration which would provide funds for the county immediately.

Wednesday’s storm created problems throughout the county with reports of flooded homes and cars in Clinton, a dam breaking near Arapaho which resulted in the wash out of a county road, and a county road being washed out south of Weatherford.

A medical clinic on the corner of 10th and Avant in Clinton had its roof blown off during the storm as well.
