Reported counterfeit money led to the apprehension of four suspects in Elk City Friday afternoon.

According to Elk City Police Chief Eddie Holland, the incident happened around 3:30 p.m. when two businesses on West 3rd Street reported to police that suspects were attempting to use counterfeit $100 bills.

When police arrived a short time later, they were able to locate the suspect’s vehicle as it was exiting the parking lot. Chief Holland said once police attempted to perform a traffic stop, the vehicle took off and led police a high speed pursuit that saw speeds reach 80mph.

Holland said after the vehicle became disabled, the suspects fled on foot. He said with help from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and Beckham County Sheriff’s Office, all four suspects were quickly caught.

He said a search of the vehicle would turn up multiple counterfeit $100 bills.

Holland said three suspects are facing multiple charges that include eluding. He said that a fourth suspect was a juvenile that was reported as being a runaway from South Carolina.

Holland said the woman who was rear ended was shaken up, but fine.
