Weatherford, OK – A Cordell woman is facing multiple felony drug trafficking charges after a large quantity of fentanyl and methamphetamine was allegedly found during a traffic stop in Weatherford on November 23.

According to a probable cause affidavit, 46-year-old Sara Ellen Wedel, also known as Sara Ellen Damon, was a passenger in a gold Cadillac that was pulled over for an expired tag around 4:06 p.m. on Washington Street. During the stop, the driver was found to have a possible warrant. Wedel also had an outstanding warrant out of Texas.

Authorities decided to tow the vehicle due to the expired registration. While conducting an inventory and later a probable cause search, officers reported finding multiple bags on the passenger side containing items belonging to Wedel. Inside those bags, the affidavit states, officers located numerous containers holding a white crystal substance and a brownish white rock-like substance.

Both substances were field tested. The white crystal material reportedly tested positive for methamphetamine with a combined weight of 135.64 grams. The brownish white substance tested positive for fentanyl with a combined weight of 70.27 grams.

The affidavit notes that Wedel initially denied the bags were hers. The driver later stated all passenger-side bags belonged to Wedel.

In addition to the narcotics, officers reported finding drug paraphernalia and seized two cell phones as evidence. Wedel was taken to the Weatherford jail.

Wedel has been charged in Custer County District Court with:

Aggravated Trafficking in Illegal Drugs (Fentanyl)

Trafficking in Illegal Drugs (Methamphetamine)

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

The fentanyl trafficking charge carries a possible sentence of 10 years to life in prison and fines ranging from 250,000 to 500,000 dollars. The methamphetamine trafficking charge carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years and fines between 25,000 and 200,000 dollars.
