Elk City, OK — Work to revitalize Elk City’s Main Street is moving forward as part of a major $11.5 million infrastructure project that began in early September 2024. Crews were given 400 days to complete the transformation, which includes new concrete pavement, redesigned sidewalks, upgraded stoplights, and improved signage.

The first phase of the project, covering downtown blocks from 3rd to 5th Streets, is nearly complete — and traffic in those blocks is now two-way again. Construction has shifted to the stretch between 5th and 7th Streets, which will also remain two-way during the work.

City officials say the overhaul will completely modernize Main Street from 3rd to 7th Streets. While the total cost stands at $11.5 million, Elk City taxpayers will only contribute $1.7 million, thanks to significant state and federal funding.

Officials expressed appreciation to residents and business owners for their patience and urged drivers to use extra caution when traveling through the construction zones.
