Clinton, OK – A Clinton man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after allegedly leading deputies on a high-speed chase through residential neighborhoods early on August 3.
According to court documents, 20-year-old Jesus Santiago Salcido Amaya is charged with felony eluding or attempting to elude a police officer and misdemeanor driving without a valid driver’s license.
Deputies reported spotting a Dodge pickup stopped in the road on South 4th Street in Clinton shortly after midnight. The truck was allegedly doing burnouts before traveling west on Avant Avenue. An attempt was made to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver sped away, reaching speeds of up to 90 miles per hour and running multiple stop signs.
The pursuit continued through several residential streets, including Hayes Avenue, Opal Avenue, and North 8th Street, before the pickup lost control, struck three parked cars, and came to a stop. Salcido allegedly fled on foot but was located nearby and arrested after refusing initial commands to get on the ground.
A records check showed Salcido did not have a valid Oklahoma driver’s license.
If convicted, Salcido could face up to one year in prison and a $2,000 fine for the felony charge, and up to 30 days in jail and a $300 fine for the misdemeanor.
A preliminary hearing conference is scheduled for September 19 in Custer County District Court.
