Weatherford, OK — A Chickasha man is facing multiple charges after allegedly leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase through Weatherford on the night of May 5.
Clifford Gene Davis, 58, is charged with Endangering Others While Eluding/Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, a felony, and Transporting an Open Container of Intoxicating Beverage, a misdemeanor.
According to an affidavit filed by Patrolman Caibyn Bainbridge with the Weatherford Police Department, the pursuit began around 9:37 PM on May 5 when Davis was seen speeding in a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis on Highway 54. Bainbridge attempted a traffic stop after observing Davis run a red light at the intersection of Highway 54 and Davis Street, but Davis allegedly fled, accelerating to speeds over 100 miles per hour.
During the chase, Davis reportedly swerved into oncoming lanes and nearly hit other drivers before crashing into a field near Custer Street. He then fled on foot. Officers from multiple agencies, including the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office and Oklahoma Highway Patrol, responded with K9 units and located Davis hours later hiding in an abandoned camper trailer.
Inside the vehicle, officers found an open bottle of liquor in the back seat and a recent receipt from United Supermarket, timestamped just minutes before the incident. Surveillance footage allegedly shows Davis purchasing alcohol shortly before the pursuit began.
Davis has prior felony convictions in both Texas and Oklahoma, including drug and weapon charges. Prosecutors have filed a supplemental information notice citing his history, making him eligible for a sentence of 20 years to life if convicted.
Bond has been set at $150,000.
