Sayre, OK – Beckham County Sheriff Derek Manning says the jail’s body scanner continues to prove its worth after it recently helped deputies intercept a meth pipe before it entered the facility.

Yeah, so I’d read an initial report that didn’t make it clear to me whether or not the contraband was found by our scanner… or if the person had told my deputies about the drug before… but actually it was located with the scanner,” Manning said.

According to Manning, a detention deputy operating the scanner noticed an anomaly that turned out to be a small pipe. When deputies confronted the individual, they admitted to the contraband and handed it over.

That scanner has done its job over and over and has paid for itself quite well with keeping contraband out of our jail, which can be a dangerous thing,” Manning added.

The scanner is used on all individuals before they’re admitted into the jail population and has become a key tool in keeping staff and inmates safe.
