Clinton, OK — A Clinton veterans organization has paid tribute to one of its own in a meaningful way.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Clinton has officially been renamed the MSG Earl Plumlee Post 4465, honoring Medal of Honor recipient Master Sergeant Earl Plumlee during a recent renaming ceremony.
Community members, veterans, and supporters gathered for the event, which recognized Plumlee’s distinguished military service and extraordinary bravery. The ceremony served as both a tribute and a reminder of the post’s continued mission to support veterans and active service members.
Plumlee was born in 1980 in Clinton and raised on a farm in nearby Merritt. He began his military career in 1998 with the Oklahoma National Guard before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 2000. As a Force Reconnaissance Marine, he deployed to Iraq. In 2009, he transitioned to the U.S. Army, where he became a Special Forces soldier.
His actions on August 28, 2013, in Afghanistan earned him the Silver Star, which was later upgraded to the Medal of Honor in 2021. Plumlee retired from active duty in 2023.
Organizers of the ceremony highlighted his courage, leadership, and dedication to fellow soldiers, noting that his story represents the highest standards of military service.
The newly renamed post, located at 1705 S US 183 in Clinton, remains active in the community and continues its focus on supporting veterans and their families.
