Elk City, OK – The busy week continues for local firefighters as crews responded to an overnight house fire in Elk City early Wednesday morning.
According to reports, firefighters were dispatched to the 600 block of West 9th Street at approximately 1:00 a.m. after a residential structure fire was reported. When crews arrived on scene, they were met with heavy flames and thick smoke coming from both a camping trailer and a nearby residence.
Officials believe the fire originated in the RV before spreading to the home.
Firefighters quickly initiated an aggressive fire attack while simultaneously conducting a search of the residence to ensure no occupants were inside. Their rapid response helped bring the fire under control in a short amount of time, limiting damage to the interior of the home. However, significant damage was reported to the exterior of the residence as well as the camper.
All occupants were able to safely evacuate the home prior to the arrival of emergency crews. No injuries have been reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
