
Altus, OK — A 23 year old Altus man was killed in a collision early Tuesday morning approximately four miles north of Altus, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at 6:21 a.m. on February 11 at the intersection of US 283 and East County Road 160 in Jackson County.
Troopers reported that a northbound vehicle struck a pedestrian in the outside lane of northbound traffic on US 283.
The pedestrian, identified as Austin James Birely, 23, of Altus, was pronounced deceased. His next of kin has been notified.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the incident. Information released is preliminary and subject to change as the investigation progresses.
