Wheeler, TX – Voters in Wheeler County will see several local elections on the ballot in the coming months, including city council races, a school board election, and the March joint primary election. Officials are reminding residents of key filing deadlines and early voting schedules.
Early voting for the March 3 Joint Primary Election will be held at two locations. The main voting site will be located at 401 Main Street in Wheeler, with a branch location at Shamrock City Hall, 305 North Main Street.
Early voting begins Tuesday, February 17, and runs through Friday, February 20, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday voting will be available February 21 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., followed by Sunday voting on February 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Early voting continues Monday through Friday, February 23 through February 27, with extended hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the main location. The Shamrock branch location will operate weekdays only from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be no voting on Monday, February 16, due to a state-designated holiday, and the branch location will not offer weekend voting.
The City of Shamrock General Election is scheduled for May 2, 2026. Filing for a place on the ballot opened January 14, 2025, and runs through February 13, 2026. Filing for write-in candidacy is open from January 14 through February 17, 2026. Filing may be completed at Shamrock City Hall during regular business hours. Three seats will be up for election, including the mayor’s position and two city council seats currently held by Mickey Mitchell and Russell Killingsworth.
The Wheeler Independent School District Board of Trustees Election will include three positions up for re-election. Individuals interested in running may obtain an application by contacting or visiting the ISD Administration Office during regular business hours. The final day to file for the school board election is Thursday, February 13, 2026. School officials note that trustees play an important role in supporting district governance and long-term success.
The City of Wheeler General Election will also take place May 2, 2026. Two city council seats, Place 2 and Place 4, will be on the ballot. The filing period runs from January 14 through February 13, 2026. Applications may be picked up at 501 South Alan L Bean Boulevard in Wheeler, Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
