Weatherford, OK – Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) will host the 38th National Convention of Alpha Mu Gamma, the National Collegiate Languages Honor Society, from March 5–7, 2026. The event will bring together students, faculty, and language enthusiasts from across the United States and abroad to share research and ideas.

This 2026 convention theme, “World Languages in the Arts and Humanities: A Multidisciplinary Approach,” focuses on the connections between language, literature, music, visual arts, and history.

The convention will feature papers, panel sessions, and poster presentations. Submissions are welcome in all languages and across a variety of disciplines. Topics may include research on language in the humanities, interdisciplinary teaching and learning, storytelling traditions, relationships between language and music, the role of performance in cultural identity, visual narratives in media and art, and efforts to preserve endangered languages. Undergraduate and graduate students are strongly encouraged to participate.

Alpha Mu Gamma was established in 1931 to recognize achievement in all foreign languages, including American Sign Language. It has grown to include more than 307 chapters across the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, including four-year and two-year institutions, both public and private.

Dr. Tugba Sevin, Professor and World Languages Coordinator at SWOSU, is co-organizing the convention with Jason Dupree, Director of the SWOSU Al Harris Library. “We look forward to welcoming participants and showcasing the vibrant ways that language intersects with the arts and humanities,” Sevin said.

Students and scholars interested in presenting at the convention can submit proposals for presentations, panels, or poster sessions online through the SWOSU Digital Commons.
