Shamrock, Texas – A man wanted out of Elk City was arrested Wednesday in Shamrock, Texas after deputies found him hiding underneath a house and used a K-9 to take him into custody, according to law enforcement.
The Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office said it was contacted Wednesday by the Elk City Police Department about a subject believed to be in Shamrock who was wanted out of Oklahoma. The man, identified as 56-year-old Edward James Guidry, had an active warrant for Motion to Revoke on a prior charge of Feloniously Pointing a Firearm out of Beckham County District Court. Authorities say Guidry has a violent history and should be considered dangerous.
Deputies went to a Shamrock residence after receiving the tip and tried to contact the suspect. When Guidry did not respond, deputies introduced less-lethal chemical agents into the home in an effort to get him to surrender.
Guidry still did not come out, so deputies entered the residence. They did not find him inside but discovered an access point leading beneath the house. From outside, deputies were able to see Guidry hiding under the residence.
Officers gave repeated verbal commands and deployed additional chemical agents, but Guidry continued to refuse to comply, according to the sheriff’s office.
At the request of Wheeler County Sheriff Everett Reeves, Gray County Sheriff Wesley Skinner responded to the scene with K-9 officer Django. After more warnings were ignored, K-9 Django was deployed beneath the residence and successfully apprehended Guidry.
Guidry was taken into custody, transported for medical evaluation, and later booked into the Wheeler County Jail.
On Wednesday evening, Elk City Police issued an update confirming Guidry’s arrest and again thanked the assisting agencies.
The Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office publicly thanked its neighboring agencies for their help in the case, including the Gray County Sheriff’s Office and the Wheeler County Constable.
