Elk City, OK — A Beckham County Sheriff’s Office detective recovered stolen property tied to an older theft and burglary from the Sayre area, after tracking leads to a home in Elk City.
Sheriff Derek Manning credited the detective’s persistence for the break in the case.
“Yeah, so one of my detectives did just a fantastic job. This is from a theft and burglary that occurred quite some time ago in the Sayre area. He recovered the property in Elk City that was just the result of him being tenacious is about the best way I can describe it,” Manning said.
According to Manning, the detective believed local individuals were involved and kept pressing leads until the property was found “sitting actually in the front yard of a house over on one of the side streets here in Elk City.”
Deputies are now working to determine if additional stolen items can be recovered. Manning said more arrests are likely as the investigation continues.
“So there probably be some other arrests forthcoming on that case and just a good job from that detective staying after it,” he said. “You know it’s because it’s important to people when somebody takes your stuff, that’s, you know, it just makes you feel a certain way that’s hard to describe it. I’ve heard people use the word violated and I guess that’s about as close to anything. You know, that’s somebody came to your place and took it and so we take that seriously and this detective took it very seriously and followed through and got some results so I’m proud of that.”
