Elk City, OK – Elk City’s Starbucks, located at South Eastern Avenue and East 7th Street, is among several stores in Oklahoma to close as part of a nationwide downsizing by the coffee giant.
The move comes as Starbucks implements its “Back to Starbucks” plan, which aims to shutter underperforming stores and cut about 900 jobs across the country. In a letter to employees dated Sept. 25, CEO Brian Niccol said the company identified locations that were “unable to create the physical environment our customers and partners expect.”
The Elk City closure is one of seven across Oklahoma, joining locations in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Norman, Edmond, Wagoner, and Miami.
For many in western Oklahoma, the Elk City store had been the only nearby Starbucks option, meaning local coffee drinkers will now need to travel farther for their frappuccinos and lattes. However, Starbucks locations in Weatherford, Woodward, and Altus will remain open.
