Ft. Cobb Lake, OK – A Chickasha man was injured Sunday afternoon in a boating accident at Sunset Cove Marina on Fort Cobb Lake, about four miles north of Fort Cobb.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the collision happened at approximately 2:32 p.m. when a 1978 Taylor Jet Boat, driven by 70-year-old Larrel L. Keel, struck the catwalk of the marina’s boat dock.

Troopers said Keel had just unloaded his boat when, for an unknown reason, he drove it under the dock catwalk. He was pinned beneath the structure for several minutes before a bystander was able to free him.

Keel was flown by Air Evac to OU Trauma Center in Oklahoma City. He was admitted in stable condition with head, trunk, shoulder, and arm injuries.

OHP reported that Keel appeared to be in normal condition at the time of the crash. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Weather at the time was cloudy with an air temperature of 82 degrees and water temperature of 78 degrees. Keel’s boat was equipped with flotation devices, but none were in use during the incident.
