Arapaho, OK – The Arapaho and Butler communities have a long history of supporting local students, and district leaders say that support has made a lasting difference.
In recent years, voter-approved bonds have helped fund major projects, including a new gymnasium and four high school safe room classrooms in 2010, and four early childhood safe room classrooms with a lunchroom addition in 2016.
Over the past decade, the district and Board of Education have worked to stretch every tax dollar, completing numerous improvements without seeking additional bonds. Those projects include:

New HVAC systems

LED lighting district-wide

New hallway floors and classroom carpeting

Addition of a music room and STEM lab

Purchase of several new buses and school vehicles

New ceiling in the old gym
Superintendent Jay Edelen said bond proposals are only brought forward when a need cannot be met through the operational budget. This year, that need is a new Agriculture Education facility, which he called “a vital investment for our students and our community’s future.”
The total project cost is $5.475 million, with a projected 8.95% ad valorem tax increase — less than what was required for the 2016 early childhood classrooms. The proposal is for a 10-year term, with election day set for September 9.
In the coming weeks, the district will spotlight the Arapaho-Butler FFA program, its students, and their activities to help illustrate the need for the facility. Community meetings will be held in both Arapaho and Butler, with dates to be announced.
