A fatal car accident occurred on Saturday morning, at approximately 9:53 AM, at the intersection of US-270 and E 780 Rd, located just east of Oakwood in Dewey County.

The accident involved two vehicles. The first, a 2018 Dodge Ram, was driven by a 16-year-old juvenile male from Norman. He was transported by Seiling EMS to Seiling Municipal Hospital, where he was treated and released. His passenger, another 16-year-old male from Calumet was flown to OU Medical Center by Air Evac. He was also treated and later released.

The second vehicle, a 2006 Nissan Altima, was driven by Jonathan Bermudez from Smyrna, Georgia. Unfortunately, Bermudez was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Oklahoma City.

A passenger in the Nissan, 34-year-old Luz Tellez Bermudez also from Smyrna, Georgia, was pinned in the vehicle for approximately 30 minutes. Emergency responders used the Jaws of Life to extricate her. She was then airlifted to OU Medical Center, where she was admitted in good condition, suffering from injuries to her arm, trunk, and legs.

The accident occurred when the southbound Dodge Ram drifted off the right side of the road. The driver overcorrected, crossing the center line and colliding head-on with the northbound Nissan Altima. The Dodge Ram overturned once, landing on its wheels.

All occupants of both vehicles were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
