A Beckham County woman is facing drug-related charges following an incident in which a child discovered a jar of methamphetamine in her home.

According to a probable cause affidavit, on the afternoon of August 11, a Beckham County Sheriff’s deputy responded to a 911 call from a juvenile who reported finding a jar containing a white crystal-like substance under her mother’s pillow in a home located in Erick.

Upon arriving at the scene, the deputy took possession of the jar and transported it to the Beckham County Sheriff’s Office for testing. A preliminary field test indicated that the white crystal-like substance was methamphetamine, weighing 5.3 grams. The evidence has been sent to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) for further analysis.

At the time of the discovery, the child’s mother, later identified as 42-year-old Michelle Lee Pledger, was not at home. Subsequent attempts to speak with Pledger were met with resistance. Pledger was later arrested and charged with child neglect and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

The affidavit stated that the child has been removed from the home for the time being.
