Pedestrian Death on I-40 Under Investigation

Authorities are investigating a fatal accident on Interstate 40 that involved a semi and the death of a pedestrian.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 1:55 a.m. Sunday a half mile west of Elk City near the 6.5 mile marker in the eastbound lane.

Troopers said the incident involved a 2020 Freightliner semi and the death of the pedestrian identified as being 32-year-old Justin Chaplin of Princeton, Indiana.

OHP said that Chaplin was pronounced deceased on the scene by Erick EMS.
