SWOSU Press Release

Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) is Oklahoma’s second highest-ranked university in the recently released U.S. News & World Report’s rankings of online bachelor’s degree programs. SWOSU is only behind the University of Oklahoma (OU) in the U.S. News 2024 Best Online Programs.

SWOSU’s online programs in RN-to-BSN nursing, Health Information Management, and Organizational Leadership make up the majority of the university’s undergraduate degrees that can be completed 100% online. The Organizational Leadership program is part of Oklahoma’s Reach Higher FlexFinish program that works with adults who have some college credit and want to complete a degree.

OU’s online programs are ranked 20th nationally. SWOSU is ranked 128th, and Oklahoma State University is the third-highest state university with a 187th ranking. Other universities that made the rankings were Northeastern State University (197th), Rogers State University (197th), Cameron University (210th), and Oral Roberts University (233rd).

In the past year, the university improved over 2023 rankings in several metrics that make up the online rankings, including the first-year retention rate of students and student performance on standardized tests.

According to the U.S. News & World Report, “These institutions have the best online baccalaureate-level programs; most of which are degree-completion oriented. Highly ranked programs have strong traditional academic foundations based on student-instructor access, graduation rates and instructor credentials.”
