The Oklahoma State Department of Education recently released the most current results of academic performance for Oklahoma’s Public Schools, and Elk City Superintendent Mike Sparks announced in a press release recently that Elk City Schools has set itself apart from the prevailing trend of regression observed across Oklahoma.

Sparks said Elk City students outperformed the statewide average in 14 of the 17 categories used to determine public school performance. In addition to the downward trend reported in Oklahoma, a recent national story reported that math scores across the nation declined this past year, however Elk City students continued to demonstrate significant growth in math with students showing growth at every grade level. Sparks said Elk City students outperformed the statewide averages by double digits and by 32 points in the 8th grade.

This trend also applies to academic achievement in science.

Sparks said both 5th and 8th grade students outperformed the statewide average by double digits.

He concluded by saying that in just two years times, Elk City students and teachers have accomplished 60 point gains.
