Sales Tax Collections See Boost Before Holiday Spending Season

The latest sales tax numbers have been released and the numbers look solid as we turn towards the holiday season.

The latest numbers reflect sales tax intake from the month of September.

The “I-40 Trio” of Elk City, Clinton and Weatherford all were up in collection when compared to this time a year ago.

According to the Oklahoma Sales Tax Commission, the City of Elk City was up 12% by bringing in $1,261,106.41. City Manager Tom Ivester calls the increase “encouraging” as another busy shopping season approaches.

The City of Weatherford was over the $1 million mark as well at $1,094,482.83, a 7.5% increase and the City of Clinton was also up 7.5% by bringing in $550,776.69.

By comparison, the City of Altus was up 5.2% with an intake of $1,097,356.43 of sales tax dollars and Woodward saw an increase by bringing in $1,104,028.21 – an 8.3% increase.

Smaller communities in the area had Sayre up 13.5% ($150,656.09), Mangum down 8.8% ($46,450.53), Hobart down 9.3% ($117,330.64) and Cordell down 14% ($87,922.51).

The state as a whole was up 3.2% by collecting $199,342,262.03.
