High School Football Regular Season Ends; Playoffs Coming Up Friday

The final regular season week of the high school football season came and went last Friday night.

The Elk City Elks finished things off the right way with a 34-6 demolition of John Marshall. The Elks scored on their first 3 possessions and had the ball on the own 39 with just over 20 seconds to play before half. Webb to Burton for a 61 yard TD capped off a 27-0 first half that saw the Elks pile up nearly 300 yards of total offense. Jayden Wynn led the Elks with 114 yards on 8 carries and two TDs. Webb completed 2/3 for 132 yards and a pair of scores. Elk City completes the regular season 7-3, 5-1 in district 4A-1 good enough for second place and a home playoff game against Newcastle on Friday night.

Elsewhere in the district, Clinton wrapped up the district title with a 31-13 win against Woodward. Cache claimed the 4th spot by defeating Chickasha 21-16. The playoff games in 4A-1 look like this: Clinton will host Bethany, Elk City welcomes Newcastle, Weatherford goes to Tuttle and Cache’s on the road at Blanchard.

The Merritt Oilers season ended Friday night in a 54-14 loss to defending Class A champ Fairview. The Oilers end up 2-8 overall with a single district win to their credit.

Hollis was unable to improve their playoff seeding after falling to Turpin 46-0 Friday night. The Class B playoff games are as follows: District champ Laverne hosts Ringwood, Turpin welcomes Pond Creek-Hunter, Shattuck’s at Garber, and Hollis heads to Ok Bible in Enid.
